In recent years the online fitness and wellness community has taken over, offering people a variety of new ways to workout. This was only excelled in 2020 with the pandemic bringing a home workout boom! Not only were people able to stream live fitness classes through Zoom but Instagram became a staple for finding free workouts. People were able to try workouts from their favourite celebrities and fitness influencers from their home during lockdown. TikTok, or ‘FitTok’, also found its own niche in the online fitness industry, becoming a space to share fitness challenges, dances and some new and unique workouts.
With an abundance of unusual fitness trends popping up all the time throughout the pandemic, Pure Gym has revealed the fastest growing fitness trends to come from 2021. Looking into the number of searches for various viral workouts they have managed to measure the growing interest in some of the more unusual ways to workout.
• Weighted Hula Hoop has seen a 234.25% increase in searches
• ZUU has seen a 123.96% increase
• Stroller Fitness searches have increased by 90.90%
• Reverse Running has seen a 50% increase
• Searches for Beer Yoga have increased by 22.72%
• Taekwondo searches have increased by 22.35%
What’s coming up in 2022?
As VR is becoming more popular and widely accessible, it is rumoured that 2022 will be the year of VR Fitness. This method of ‘gamercising’ supposedly takes home workouts to a whole new level, making exercise much more fun and adventurous. You can run, dance, box, cycle, swim and even fight off aliens as a means of exercise all from the comfort of your own home.

Trikes not only offer a new and exciting way to exercise but also offer a great way for those less able to get outside and workout with the additional support of the third wheel.
How to get a fully body workout on a tricycle
Cycling is a great way to work on your fitness as it improves your cardiovascular system as well as strengthening lots of your muscles. You are able to tailor your workout to your capabilities; cycling can be a pretty low-impact workout if you’re cycling on flat terrain at a steady pace, or you can increase the intensity of your cycle if you are able to. If you are wanting a challenge then trying standing up on your trike as it will make your cycle much harder, increase your heart rate and burn more calories.
Another way to challenge yourself is to build resistance on your cycle. You can do so by either cycling up hill or if you’re cycling on flat terrain then you up the gears. By adding this extra resistance it makes your body work harder, increase your heart rate even more and burn even more calories. The extra support of the third wheel makes tricycles especially good if you're trying to climb small hills as you’re able to build speed without having to worry about maintaining balance and not falling off.
